Our History

The Show Horse Council of Western Australia Inc. (SHCWA) was established in November 1993 in response to a growing demand for an organisation dedicated to the promotion and development of show horse disciplines—including showing, rider, turnout, and leading rein classes.

Now an incorporated body with over 250 members and numerous affiliated clubs, the Council plays a vital role in supporting and enhancing the show horse community across Western Australia.

Our dedicated volunteer committee continues to expand opportunities for members through the delivery of high-calibre events such as our annual Horse of the Year, Classic, and Western Stars shows—all proudly recognised as Grand National Qualifiers.

The pinnacle of the sport, The Grand National Saddle Horse & Riding Championships, is a week-long showcase of the finest show horses from across Australia and New Zealand. Officiated by three international judges, this prestigious event features more than 500 of the nation’s best show horses and riders who have earned the right to qualify for this remarkable competition.
